The Articulating Headrest

Unlike traditional headrests, primarily a pad, the Articulating Headrest provides the most desirable level of head support and addresses common limitations. The Articulating Headrest (patent pending) uniquely enhances the passenger experience through providing full support in conjunction with dynamic movement on both vertical and horizontal planes, adjusting seamlessly upon tilting your head up, down, or to the side.

This dynamic response ensures unparalleled comfort and relief from stress, without requiring manual intervention.

Challenges

The challenge has been to design a headrest capable of supporting the head and to continue providing that support in unison with normal head movement. The design had to be also capable of withstanding rigorous use.

Technological Breakthrough

The breakthrough centred on the design and application of a unique combination of guides, guide slots and rectangular springs. This development has enabled the headrest to fully articulate on both horizontal and vertical planes, simultaneously and seamlessly, in unison with head movement.

Design Features

Articulating headrest

The headrest fully articulates seamlessly with head movement while cradling the nape of the neck, providing optimal head support and comfort to effectively offset discomfort and fatigue and induce sleep, without manual intervention, pillows and other paraphernalia.

The headrest cradles the nape of the neck, taking pressure off the spine and associated neck muscles to relieve stress and induce relaxation and sleep. This design draws inspiration from Chinese culture, where head support at the “heavenly pillar” has been practiced for centuries. When not in use, it reverts to its central, ‘at rest’ position, saving time and costs in resetting headrests between flights.

Suitable for all seating classes, the Articulating Headrest may be applied to new seating or retrofitted to enhance existing seating, through OEMs and MROs.
